JOINTISZA - Spotlight on summer

21-08-2017

The JOINTISZA project is enjoying a busy summer season! Here are some of the highlights:

  • ICPDR gives thumbs up for JOINTISZA project – On June 8–9, 2017, the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR) held its 15th Standing Working Group meeting in Brussels. The working group commended the successful start of the JOINTISZA project earlier this year and invited the ICPDR Tisza Group to continue its joint efforts in the framework of the project towards developing an updated version of the Integrated Tisza River Basin Management Plan. Further information can be found on the ICPDR website.
  • Project activities and the international Danube Day celebrations – A series of JOINTISZA project events took place between June 26 and 29, 2017, in Szolnok, Hungary. Further details can be found on the project website.
  • JOINTISZA project in Romania – The project was represented at the first overnight inter-basin simulation exercise for the Tisza River Basin. The goal of the exercise was to verify the functioning of the information and decision-making flow and interventions in the event of flood emergencies. Organised between July 4 and 7, 2017, by Crişuri Basin Administration in cooperation with Mureş, Banat and Someş-Tisa Basin Administrations, the event brought together prefects from the relevant counties, officials from the Ministry of Water and Forests, representatives of the Romanian National Water Administration, mayors, and members of Avram Iancu and Zerind Local Committees for Emergency Situations.
  • JOINTISZA newsletter – The first issue of the project’s electronic newsletter was published in July 2017, reporting on achieved results and providing information about the project. The newsletter is available on the project website.

The project team is now focusing on developing a roadmap for public participation and stakeholder involvement, related to the development of the Integrated Tisza River Basin Management Plan, as well as on collecting data for the assessment of significant pressures in the Tisza River Basin.

The next project activity updates will be available in mid-September. Until then, we wish you a very enjoyable end to the summer.
