Dear reader,
The first part of 2018 proved to be very busy and full of dynamic events. Below you will be able to read what were the stories behind them. The first half of the 2018 was marked with 1st year review, where we would like to thank our partners for starting and developing into well-functioning consortium. The good work pays off in wide workshops attendance, from the one carried out in Linz (Austria) in February, to all three workshops carried out in Dubrovnik (Croatia), to first set of capacity building events carried out in May in Rijeka (Croatia). We are also planning several events more in the second half of 2018, with exact dates being available very soon.

EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS:

10th – to 11th May, 2018: CAPACITIY BUILDING WORKSHOPS / TRAINING FOR SMESs AND HPC PROVIDERS IN RIJEKA/OPATIJA, CROATIA
1st InnoHPC Lab training took place on May 10th and 11th in Opatija and Rijeka and was organized by the InnoHPC Project Partner ERDF PP4 – CNRM, Centre for Advanced Computing and Modelling.
We conducted two interconnected two-day events for different audiences. One two day event was tailored to address the needs of SMEs, where the other two-day event was tailored to address the needs of HPC providers.
SME's were dealing with HPC trends, advantages using HPC in automotive and electronic industries, HPC infrastructure, comparing the performance of desktop computer and HPC cluster, data protection, patents, applicability, VR, digital transformation guidelines etc.
HPC Providers were dealing with Technology Transfer Process (Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) protection, data protection, HPC infrastructure, digital transformation guidelines, role of trust).
All the participants also had the opportunity to hear the presentation of the general understanding of HPC infrastructure and inspiring success stories from two companies, Arctur d.o.o. from Nova Gorica and AV Living Lab from Ljubljana.

28th May, 2018: 2nd REGIONAL INNOHPC WORKSHOP IN BUDAPEST, HUNGARY
The goal of the event is to promote the popularity and practical application of high performance computing through presentations on university-industry collaborations in Hungary, and to create an opportunity for mapping and discussing HPC cooperation possibilities within the framework of the afternoon workshop.
The event will be held in Hungarian, but translation is provided upon request.

31st of May, 2018: 3rd REGIONAL INNOHPC WORKSHOP IN LJUBLJANA, SLOVENIA
3rd Regional Workshop will take place in Chamber of Commerce Slovenia, (7th floor business oasis, Dimičeva ulica 13, Ljubljana), in coordination with University of Ljubljana.
Tomas Karasek, Head of Parallel Algorithms Research Laboratory, IT4Innovations national supercomputing center, Ostrava, Czech Republic will be giving a presentation on Application of HPC technologies for solving engineering problems.
Ivan Spisso, PhD, HPC consultant for academic and industrial CFD applications SuperComputing Applications and Innovation (SCAI) Department, Bologna (Italy) will talk about Engineering Applications and HPC a marriage of convenience.
Radovan Sernec, PhD, Director of Innovation and Technology, AV Living Lab will be giving a presentation on Support of HPC in designing advanced and reliable algorithms in autonomous driving vehicles.

28th May –to 1st June, 2018, Ljubljana, Slovenia: HPC SUMMIT WEEK
University of Ljubljana is organizing together with PRACE the European HPC summit week in Ljubljana with around 350 participants from all around the Europe.
European HPC Summit Week 2018 in Ljubljana will gather main HPC stakeholders in Europe. Similar to previous years also this edition will offer a wide variety of workshops covering a number of application areas where supercomputers are key, as well as HPC technologies and infrastructures.
European HPC Summit Week also offers a great opportunity to network with all relevant European HPC stakeholders, from technology suppliers and HPC infrastructures to scientific and industrial HPC users in Europe.

24th to 25th May, 2018 »POLICY DIALOG EVENT and 11th FORUM FOR INNOVATION - Bucharest, Romania – University »Politehnica«
The event is organized within the Made in Danube project implemented by the INTERREG DanubeTransnational Programme and co-financed by European Union funds (ERDF, IPA). Its objective is to promote Bioeconomy in the Danube Region by supporting 3 innovative regional initiatives in the field of forestry, agriculture and biofuel.
The goal of the event is to discover, develop, and disseminate best practices, in the areas of innovation and general management as well as to identify necessarypolicies in the field. The representatives of the InnoHPC project will join the event and share the InnoHPC experience.

In conclusion, our activity so far, this first part of 2018 has been quite fruitful; however, much work is still ahead of us during the remaining half of 2018.
