YOUMIG - INFOGRAPHICS: GERMANY/REGENSBURG DATA SHOW CHANGING FOREIGN POPULATION

27-02-2019

In 2017, Romania entered the top-5 of sending countries for immigrants already residing in Germany, data shows. However, immigrants from the Danube-region countries are distributed unevenly across the country. In Regensburg (Bavaria), a partner city in the YOUMIG project, Romania and Bulgaria are the two most commont citizenships among residing migrants, their numbers exceeding those of the refugees from Iraq and Syria. The inflow of Romanian migrants in Germany was also highly visible even during the climax of the refugee crisis in 2015.

As for youth being involved in migration, a special focus of the YOUMIG project, the data from Germany show that over 60% of Serbian immigrants are younger than 25, and youth aged 15-25 account for a half of the the total. Immigrants from Bulgaria and Romania are older, with fewer accompanying children (under 15). The three nationality groups also differ in the age at which the migrants entered the country. Serbian immigrants are on average the youngest at entry at 21, Bulgarian migrants are about 25 years old at entry, and Romanians are over 26, on average.
