EcoInn Danube - Czech scientists have developed a unique grey-water treatment plant

28-08-2017

Modern equipment capable of cleaning in buildings the so-called grey water were developed by researchers from the Brno University of Technology (BUT). The innovations arose through the successful collaboration of academics from BUT with developers from ASIO group.

The „grey water“ consists mainly of shower water or hand washing.

The Czech Republic, as a member of the European community, has committed itself not to subsidize drinking water in the future. Greywater is to be seen not as a waste but as a source of water and energy.

So-called grey water from buildings is wastewater without products of human metabolism - ideally the part that comes from showers. The developed device works on a principle of mechanical cleaning of the water and then biologically purifying it to the rainwater level. The device even hygienically provides the water, thanks to filtration on the drain.

The uniqueness is mainly in the combination of the separation of bacteria necessary for biological cleaning and hygiene of water by filtration on membranes and of process how the membranes are regenerated. As a result, water is hygienically safe and free of chlorine. And so it is easy to use, for example, for irrigation.
