The awareness about responsible innovation is growing and becoming stronger all over the world. Nevertheless, there are still big gaps between ideology and written reforms on one side and in-depth analysis, training and implementation in different environments (academic and business) of responsible innovation. But in spite of that, it is becoming more and more obvious that the future generations rely on our decisions and steps made today towards responsible research and innovations.

Consortium of partners of D-STIR (Danube Framework for Responsible Research and Innovation using Socio-Technical Integrating) Project gathered for three-day Capacity Building Workshop and 3rd transnational project event in Szeged, Hungary. The intense and hard working days were of high importance as we welcomed STIR (Socio-Technical Integration Research) developer and external expert of the Hungarian partner First Hungarian Responsible Innovation Association - FHRIA, prof. dr. Erik Fisher from Arizona State University.

Hungarian partners First Hungarian Responsible Innovation Association, County Government of Csongrád and and ELI-HU Research and Development Non-profit Ltd hosted this meeting between 17 and 19 July 2017. The meeting also included participation of embedded humanists from all partner countries. All partners participated in the meeting and engaged in workshops to get prepared for applying STIR methodology in our territories – to academic and business environments.

• Who is embedded humanist: people responsible for the implementation of the testing phase of D-STIR Application and RRI Actions in the partner territories.

As our external expert, prof. Erik Fisher stated: “this intensive workshop contributed to the objective of mapping and systemizing interdisciplinary factors (social, environmental, business and academic). Partners are now acquaintance with tools for addressing academia and business actors for stimulating responsible actions and thinking in the process of innovations. This will lead to better decisions, higher efficiency, productivity and long-term thinking”.

The content of Capacity Building Workshops was extremely intense and concentrated towards new knowledge, experiences, principles and approaches to broaden our capacity for the best STIR results possible. With this, all partners engaged in STIR simulation with guest, dr. Csaba Janaky from University of Szeged. On top of this the partners’ consortium got the opportunity to explore the STIR opportunities at the brand new, worldwide unique research infrastructure of ELI-ALPS Kutatóközpont.
