lifelineMDD - Final activities on the restoration site in Serbia

29-12-2022

Restoration activities in the Serbian pilot site Lovrenac have been executed on time, during August and September 2022. Together with our subcontractor, we decided that the third point on Lovrenac canal will be cleaned of excess vegetation and mud, which prevented the regular inflow of water during flood events. „Third point“ is situated on the widest part of Lovrenac, where it connects with the rest of the floodplain and is probably the shallowest. Therefore, for the running water it presents the first physical obstacle to spread during floods. The subcontractor engaged one long-arrow bulldozer for the groundworks in the period when the water level is the lowest during the year. In total ca 30 m long, 10 m wide (looking from the ground line into the waterbody), and 0.5-0.7 m deep layer of soil were excavated from the right bank of Lovrenac, stored on the ground close to the waterbody and finally transported and permanently settled in the former pits that are close to the restoration site.

Along with the deepening, this part of the waterbody has also become attractive for visitors, due to the open water surface close to the observation tower.
