ISTER - Awareness-raising event of pakora.net @ the day of the open monument

08-12-2022

Every year on the second Sunday in September, monuments in Germany that are otherwise inaccessible open their doors to visitors. Then several million people embark on a foray into the past, visiting old churches and monasteries, castle ruins, castles, excavation sites, city fortifications, town halls, village centers, mills, historic railway and industrial plants or simply the neighbor's house, which is under monument protection. Many private owners, voluntary helpers and associations are involved on this day and show how they contribute to the preservation of cultural monuments.

This year the day of the open monument took place on September 11, 2022. The perfect event for pakora.net to introduce interested citizens of Karlsruhe in Baden Württemberg to the ISTER project, as the event is well known and attracts hundreds of visitors each year. Pakora.net organized a small stand in a school next to the excavations of the villa rustica (roman manor) in Durlach, a suburb of Karlsruhe, where, with a poster, brochures and tablets, we introduced the results of the ISTER project to the local community.

This awareness-raising event allowed us to physically reach out to our fellow citizens and introduce them to the developed GIS-based atlas and all the data carefully collected by the partners and digitized on the topic of Roman roads, settlements and Roman cultural inheritance. It certainly helped promoting the ISTER project and its results.
