IDES - The second workshop on the Koviljsko-Petrovaradinski Rit Special Nature Reserve, Serbia

05-12-2022

The second stakeholders' workshop for the Serbian Pilot Area of the IDES project took place inside the pilot area (Special Nature Reserve Koviljsko‐Petrovaradinski rit), in the village of Kovilj, on May 31st, 2022.

The workshop was conducted in three parts.

The first one was dedicated to presentations and discussions - first an overview of the ES concept and results of the first stakeholder Workshop (Jasna Grabić), mapping and visualization of ES in IDES project (Pavel Benka), defining the optimal scenario – practical work in MentalModeler (Zorica Srđević and Milica Ilić).

Correlation between the FCM map and the ES map for Habitat obtained in the T1 was also presented (status quo). An ideal case scenario (with all pressures minimized) and related map was presented and discussed. Finally, the same pressures in a different site were compared to see the differences in the way ES and P were linked. The discussion regarding the value of each pressure was creative and supported with experts’ knowledge, but also the knowledge of locals who know real life situations and problems in the Pilot Area.

An optimal scenario was agreed upon and used to calculate and visualize it in the case of ES Habitat.

Th second part of the Workshop was dedicated to selecting the most appropriate measures necessary for achieving optimal level of pressures, defined in the first part of the Workshop. The measures were selected in an atmosphere of lively discussion and disagreement between the conflicting sectors. The pressures selected to be reduced: waste water, land take and intensification of forestry.

The third part of the Workshop included a visit of the participants in the Pilot area (by boats).

The workshop was attended by the representatives of the Institute of Nature Conservation (Serbian ASP), public company Vojvodinašume/forest holding Novi Sad (responsible for the management of the KPR), public company Vojvodinašume/forest administration Kovilj (responsible for operationalisation of the management plans and the works in the KPR), public water management company Vode Vojvodine (responsible for the water management in the KPR), Provincial secretariat for urbanism and environmental protection, farmers association Eco‐farmer, civil society association Dunav 1245, non‐governmental organization Pokret Gorana, City of Novi Sad Administration for Environmental Protection, and Faculty of Agriculture, University of Novi Sad.
