IDES - The Nationalpark Donau-Auen pilot area's second workshop

28-11-2022

The second stakeholders workshop corresponding to the Nationalpark Donau-Auen(AT) pilot area took place in an online format, on May 31st 2022.

Martin Tschikof and Elisabeth Bondar-Kunze represented the project team, while the stakeholders were represented by the following: Susanne Leputsch (Vienna’s municipal department for Climate, Forestry, and Agriculture), Robert Tögel (Austrian national waterway authority - viadonau), Iris Kempter (Austrian national waterway authority - viadonau), Franz Wagner (Federal Ministry for Agriculture, Regions, and Tourism - BMLRT).

The optimal scenario for the water management concept of the pilot area was discussed and the participants agreed on the following pressure changes:

Navigation -0.2
Invasive alien species 0.2
Human infrastructure -0.2
Habitat fragmentation -0.5
Tourism and recreation 0
Hydropower 0
River regulation -0.3

The optimal scenario model would see the biggest (positive) effect on biodiversity, a medium effect on water quality, while tourism and local recreation would benefit the least.
