SABRINA - SAVE THE DATE - SABRINA & ECF CONFERENCE, 5th December, Brussel - on applying the key results of SABRINA on EU transport and mobility policy focused on cycling.

16-11-2022

You are invited to save-the-date for an event to publicise the results of the SABRINA Project, focused on improving the quality and safety of cycling infrastructure for people who cycle.

Date:             Monday, 5th December 2022

Time:             09h00 – 13h00

Venue:          Résidence Palace, Maelbeek Room, 155 Rue de la Loi, 1040 Brussels

The purpose of this event is to apply the key lessons and recommendations from SABRINA on improving cycling infrastructure for use at the EU-level. This includes

Determining the best EU funding sources for cycling infrastructure at the national, regional and local level
Creating EU-level quality requirements for cycling infrastructure, as stipulated in the revised Road Infrastructure and Safety Management Directive
Integrating cycling infrastructure projects into the Trans-European Transport Network, TEN-T, and incorporating cycling as a fully-fledged mode of transport in the EU’s flagship transport policy

The importance of having high-quality cycling infrastructure across Europe is crucial for the EU’s achievement of its climate goals, given that cycling is one of the best zero and low emissions form of transport that we have, and as such can substantially contribute to the lowering of road transport emissions in the EU. To unlock cycling’s full potential, EU funding for cycling infrastructure must be substantially increased, and EU member states, regions and cities need to prepare operational programmes and projects that made the best use of this funding.

The event will be moderated by Raluca Fiser, Green Revolution Association and will feature keynote presentations from the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP), a SABRINA partner, as well as the European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF).

The event will take place in two parts. First, a session focusing on applying the key results of SABRINA on EU transport and mobility policy focused on cycling, with discussions on its application for TEN-T and for active mobility in Europe. The second session will specifically focus on the main project results and tools created by SABRINA. The event welcomes the participation and attendance of stakeholders from the EU institutions, member state representations, civil society, research and academia.
