This year, all the event was taken in a hybrid format, with an on-site venue in Košice, Slovakia.

The Danube Cycle Plans project was visible at the event, thanks to Ministry of Transport and Construction of the Slovak Republic. The objectives of the project supports the main topics of the Forum, expressed by Joint Statement of the Ministers, responsible for the EU Strategy for the Danube Region:

  • sustainable development of the Danube Region
  • unprecedented challenges for the Danube Region (energy, navigation, and food security)
  • deepening of the regional and cross-MRS cooperation

Among others, the issues of energy security and European community’s efforts on reducing the dependence on fossil fuels through diversification of energy supply sources and routes, together with food security were important topics in the ministers’ Joint Statement.

Danube Cycle Plans project aims to take the Pan-European Master Plan for Cycling Promotion, the first comprehensive document on cycling policy transcending the EU from paper and put it into practice.  The project’s main goal is to have more people cycling in the Danube region. To encourage more people to use bikes, the project has recognized three tools: the well-developed Danube Cycling Strategy, better cycling infrastructure, and increasing the awareness of relevant stakeholders about the needs of cyclists with their  improved capacity to promote cycling.
