07-09-2022

For two days, September 5-6, 2022, the Presentation Centre 'Adrion - the heart of the mountain' in the Nature Park Biokovo administrative building was the venue of a partner meeting within the EU project 'Danube Cycle Plans', organized by the Ministry of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure.

The two-day meeting was attended by fifteen experts in the development of bicycle transport and cyclotourism; they came from Austria, Bulgaria, Czechia, Hungary, Slovakia, Serbia and Romania to share their experience in the development of bicycle transport with the aim to achieve coordinated implementation, development and promotion of cycling in participating countries. The Castle of Makarska was selected by a representative of the Project Member States as a place for presentations, thematic discussions and field trips primarily because one of the most attractive cycle routes 'EuroVelo 8' passes through the Makarska coast and then goes to the Biokovo Mountains.

On the first day, the participants carried out a field analysis of the potential of the cycle route from the centre of Makarska to the Skywalk, while on the second day, the electric cycle route was taken from the centre of our town to the monument 'Kamen Brela' as part of the EuroVelo 8.

Moreover, the two-day meeting was a part of the 'Danube Cycling Ambassadors' campaign in the Republic of Croatia, all with the aim of raising awareness about the positive impacts of cycling on public health and the environment, as well as about the economic potential of cycling.
