ISTER - 2nd and the 3rd ISTER local capacity-building workshops in Aalen (Germany)

25-08-2022

On July 12th, the 2nd and the 3rd regional ISTER workshops on the subjects of "Roman Route heritage as an enabler for policy and regulatory framework” and “Roman Route heritage as a means for exchange and collaborations" took place in the Adult Education Centre in Aalen (Germany). During the workshops, the participants first became professional input regarding the network of Roman routes in the region of East Wuerttemberg and especially the different aspects of its scientific exploration and regional touristic perception. In the future, closer cooperation between scientists (archaeologists, historians) and tourism managers could help to make regional thematic policy more profound and sustainable. Second, various forms of intercommunal as well as international topic-related cooperation were discussed based on the example of the Römerstraße Neckar-Alb-Aare, the German-Swiss association valorising and promoting Roman heritage aside from well-known LIMES sites. The regional stakeholders share the understanding that no additional working structures are needed to bring the VIA ISTER to the local users. Instead, existing formats can be complemented by the topic of Roman routes in the Danube region.
