Living Danube Limes - Water views of two UNESCO World Heritage Sites

07-07-2022

As part of the activities for 100 years of Lower Austria, the project team of the EU Interreg project "Living Danube Limes" brought interested children and adults closer to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites "Danube Limes" and "Wachau" on June 22, 2022 during a Danube ship trip.

The navigation through the Wachau was the link between the two UNESCO World Heritage Sites. On board, in addition to a Roman children's program for the little ones, there was information on archeology and history, UNESCO World Heritage, protection and preservation for the future and of course the Romans, who told their story and made it understandable.
The preservation and protection, but also the sustainable tourist use of the Roman Danube Limes have been important to the University for Continuing Education Krems for years - for example, the university accompanied the submission of the Danube Limes as a UNESCO World Heritage Site with the project "Danube Limes Brand" and since 2020 the project "Living Danube Limes" is concerned with the intersection of archaeological heritage, preservation, protection and the creation of sustainable tourism measures, such as the establishment of a cultural route along the Danube Limes from Germany to the Black Sea.

The Center for Cultural Property Protection at the University for Continuing Education Krems is entrusted with the management of the project "Living Danube Limes", in which 47 institutions from the entire Danube region are working together.
