SABRINA - CONNECTING EUROPE DAYS IN LYON, FRANCE

30-06-2022

Formerly known as TEN-T Days, Connecting Europe Days, Europe’s mobility flagship event, is taking place from 28 to 30 June in Lyon, France. The event brings together politicians, industry representatives and the European Commission to discuss transport and mobility, and their role in achieving the ambitious goals set out in the EU Green Deal and the Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy. As 2022 is the European Year of Youth, the Connecting Europe Days have a specific focus on young voices and views. The event is being organized together with the French Presidency of the Council of the EU.

The event was opened by the EU Commissioner for Transport Adina Valean saying she expects “these #ConnectingEurope Days to help us put together ideas and solutions for a more resilient transport system, for better crisis-proof infrastructure.” It was great to hear Karima Delli, chair of the Transport and Tourism Committee at European Parliament pointed out in her speech cycling by saying that "bicycle will not be a forgotten section in Europe anymore."

The SABRINA project is presenting its activities and results at stand no. 51 in the Exhibition area. The 2022 Connecting Europe Days exhibition showcases the successes of the EU funding programmes that contribute to developing transport infrastructure and research in Europe. The goal of the SABRINA project during the event and in the whole project implementation is to increase awareness that sustainable and smart mobility cannot be achieved without safe cycling infrastructure.

Besides the stand, the SABRINA project also had a 3-minute pitch in the Marketplace, in the category Decarbonization. Marko Ševrović from the European Institute of Road Assessment – EuroRAP presented project activities on EuroVelo long-distance bicycle routes which are parallel to the TEN-T network in the Danube area. The aim was to demonstrate how existing infrastructure safety rating methodologies (iRAP, CycleRAP and ECF’s European Certification Standard) can be utilized and integrated to enable decision-making and prioritization of improvement investments targeted to vulnerable road users on the core and comprehensive TEN-T network, with respect to the RISM Directive 2019/1936. “If we want to improve decarbonization, we need to improve cycling road safety. (…) In order to encourage investments in safe cycling infrastructure, we need to raise awareness of the stakeholders,” concluded Marko Ševrović.
