SABRINA - DAY 6 OF CYCLING ALONG EUROVELO 9 TO VELO-CITY IN LJUBLJANA

15-06-2022

The last day of our „Cycling to Velo-city 2022“ took us all the way to the capital of Slovenia, city of Ljubljana, currently hosting the biggest cycling conference in the world called Velo-city. We were guided into the city by Milka Comino from the Ljubljana Cycling Network.

At the City hall prof. Janez Koželj, Vice Mayor of Ljubljana, emphasized, how "with our presence cycling on the road and using the trains we influence public opinion“. He added that “on bicycles we turn the wheels of progress“ and signed the support for the goals of the pan-European Master Plan for Cycling Promotion. He graciously invited us for a cycling tour of Ljubljana, showcasing the good practices and quality of life that investing in cycling infrastructure brings to the whole city. Our tour finished on the main square of Ljubljana, with the statue of poet France Prešeren, amongst other things also the author of the Slovenian national anthem.

And so concluded our journey from Vienna to Ljubljana. After 450 km and 4,200m elevation gain we connected the two cities and all the cities where we stopped along the way. Hopefully, our cycling motivated someone to choose a bike instead of a car and be a part of the change towards a more sustainable future.

The bike ride was made possible by klimaaktivMobil and the Ministry of Infrastructure of Slovenia with support from local partners Radlobby Österreich, Radlobby ARGUS Steiermark, Radkompetenz Österreich and Slovenian Cycling Network.
