On 10th and 11th March 2022, DANUrB+ partners are organizing a Regional conference dedicated to the challenges in shrinking cities along the Danube. The event focuses on the opportunities for development of Bulgarian and Romanian settlements in the Danube regions, highlighting the importance of the "smart" networks, utilization of cultural and historical heritage and the power of the local communities. Organisers are the DANUrB+ partners from Romania - "Ion Mincu" University of Architecture and Urbanism, Association for Urban Transition, National Institute for Research and Development in Tourism and from Bulgaria - New Bulgarian University, National Tourism Cluster "Bulgarian Guide", Bluelink Foundation, with the special support of the Municipality of Ruse.
The event will provide an opportunity for representatives of local authorities, non-governmental organizations, higher education institutions, local entrepreneurs, professionals, and/or students willing to share ideas and knowledge about development opportunities, good practices, programs for development of cities along the Danube, plans and initiatives for valorization of the Danube cultural heritage, etc.
The conference will be held in a hybrid format (in person and online) on 10th March in Bucharest, Romania and on 11th March 2022 in Ruse, Bulgaria.
Divided into four thematic sessions, such as: Smart Networks, Potential of Shrinking, Heritage as a Tool, People Make Places, the organizers will tackle issues related to the peripheral regions along the Danube, their tangible and intangible heritage. Within the conference will be organized a special Journalist Workshop and a Round Table “Development opportunities for peripheral cities on the Danube”.
