HORIZON call for restoration of fresh and transitional water ecosystems in the Danube river basin

25-01-2022

The European Commission has launched five missions under Horizon Europe that aim to tackle major societal challenges – adapting to climate change, fighting cancer, living in greener cities, protecting the ocean, seas, and waters, and ensuring healthy soil and food.

EU missions are a new tool that includes a set of actions, such as research and innovation projects, to contribute to the goals of the European Green Deal, Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan as well as the Sustainable Development Goals.

Among the five EU Missions is ‘Restore our ocean and waters by 2030’. The Mission will restore marine and fresh water ecosystems and biodiversity, prevent and eliminate pollution from ocean, seas and waters, create a sustainable, carbon-neutral and circular Blue Economy. Actions foreseen by the Mission include the creation of a network of lighthouses at sea and river basin scale to implement the mission and expand the networks of protected areas.

Under the EU Mission call Protect and restore marine and freshwater ecosystems and biodiversity‘, now open for applications, you can submit your project proposal on the topic of Danube river basin lighthouse – restoration of freshwater ecosystems.

The deadline to submit a proposal is 12 April 2022 17:00:00 Brussels time.
