ISTER - The ancient roads of Roman province Pannonia are still used today

04-10-2021

The ISTER project aims to discover new Roman roads in the former Danube provinces and to connect these routes. Therefore, our colleagues Felix Marcu, MNIT manager, George Cupcea, deputy director and Csók Zsolt, expert archaeologist, set off for Bosnia and Herzegovina and identified three ancient roads. The three routes are located in a beautiful mountain landscape of what was once the province of Pannonia, between the current localities Kulen Vakuf - Kalati, Oštrelj - Kolunić and Prnjavor. The importance of these roads comesfrom the fact that they are still used today, which shows once again the skill of the Romans and the durability of the access roads, which were one of the main attributes of the empire.
