25-09-2021

The project "Danube Cycle Plans - More people on the bike in the Danube region!" was awarded the VCÖ Mobility Award in the category "Active Mobility" in 2021.

The VCÖ Mobility Award is Austria’s biggest competition for sustainable mobility projects. It is supported by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Climate Action and the Austrian Federal Railways. The 30th edition of the award 2021 is dedicated to the topic of “Mobility Awakening” and is looking for exemplary projects and concepts on sustainable transport. Danube Cycle Plans project is the winner of this Mobility Award 2021 in the category “active mobility”. The award was handed over by the Austrian Minister of Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology Mrs Gewessler and the CEO of ÖBB Austrian Federal Railways Mr Matthä and CEO of VCÖ Verkehrsclub Österreich Mr Nowak.

The transport sector is at the beginning of several transformation processes: away from combustion engine to emission-free drives, away from car-oriented to multimodal mobility, away from private ownership of means of transport to increased sharing. The changes are accelerated by digitisation. The 30th VCÖ Mobility Award 2021 is dedicated to the major changes in the transport sector and has the motto ‘Aufbruch in der Mobilität‘ (‘Mobility Awakening‘). In the worsening climate crisis in particular, the move towards sustainable transport plays a central role. Today, transport is the biggest cause of climate-damaging emissions. Tomorrow, mobility should be the drive for improvements on the way to the climate target. It is important to prepare the ground today for sustainable and socially just mobility of tomorrow and what comes afterwards.
