Responsible use of land as a resource is more important than ever. Land consumption and urban sprawl are among the most pressing problems of our time. With #upperREGION2030, the province of Upper Austria, namely our CINEMA partner biz-up, has created a strategy for future spatial planning in Upper Austria that aims to curb land consumption in our province and make room for the future. The reuse of fallow land and vacant buildings is an important contribution to the conservation of valuable soil resources. In order to raise public awareness of land conservation and provide impetus for sustainable site development, the #upperREGION Award will be announced for the first time in 2021. The award brings forward-looking showcase projects for the revitalization of brownfield and vacant sites as well as innovative and sustainable projects for the revitalization of town centers before the curtain. The winning projects are to show successful approaches to making derelict areas accessible to people and businesses again, making them economically viable and thus making them a tangible experience.

The award ceremony will take place on June 15, 2021, at the Graumann site in Traun, provided that further developments around the coronavirus make it possible. The CINEMA project will be presented with a common video of all participating project regions, so watch out for it!
