On Wednesday, 12th of May 2021, representatives of the Faculty of Economics of the Technical University in Košice, via an online broadcast from University Science Park TECHNICOM, spoke to wide audience watching the event entitled: "How can business help solve social problems?". The event took place on the occasion of the completion and evaluation of the InnoSchool Learning System (ILS) piloting, a new and highly innovative Learning System focused on the strengthening of social innovation and entrepreneurial spirit of secondary schools’ students. ILS has been developed under the international project InnoSchool, supported by European Union funds (ERDF, IPA, ENI) through the Interreg Danube Transnational Programme. The design and development of the ILS was the responsibility of the Faculty of Economics of the Technical University in Košice.

ILS provides students with the knowledge needed to create a competitive idea for entrepreneurship and at the same time helps to educate them in looking at social problems as an opportunity. ILS was piloted in Slovakia for the first time in the last school year and has met, as in other countries, with very positive feedbacks - from all of participating secondary schools from the Košice region (grammar schools, business academies, secondary industrial and vocational schools, hotel academies), where more than 220 students were involved.

The Technical University awarded involved students by declaring the best teams and their members from each of the 17 participating classes within each secondary school. All students that successfully completed ILS, received a certificate.

The selected student representatives competed also for“ The best social business idea“. As an idea with the greatest potential for development, HERO FRIDGE CHEF from the students of the Grammar School of St. Thomas Aquinas in Košice, was evaluated. The student’s application is focused on the prevention of food waste, which is a long-term problem in Slovakia and other European countries.
