IDES - First Austrian STAKEHOLDERS Workshop: ECOSYSTEM SERVICES IN THE Donau-Auen National Park

31-05-2021

On Friday 28th of May, 17 participants in total (4 IDES project members from BOKU, 13 pilot area stakeholders including representatives of Donau-Auen National Park, forestry, fishery, WWF AT, regional authorities (city of Vienna), "viadonau" - Austrian Federal Waterway Administration, engineering office) participated in first national workshop organized on Donau-Auen National Park, the pilot area in Austria.

The workshop had to take place on-line via Zoom, due to Covid19 restrictions. This format worked very well for the task at hand: working with the online-tool of the Mental Modeler and collecting and merging feedback from all workshop participants. The stakeholders were highly interested in the thematic of the IDES project and eagerly and thoroughly discussed their views on the interactions between the selected ecosystem services.

It is difficult to draw conclusions at this point, as the exercise is not completed. At this first stage, the IDES team already created a very complex network/ map and is looking forward to find out about the stakholders' view on the selected pressures and measures. Due to the very lively and interesting discussions about the different interactions of the selected ecosystem services, the participants did not finish the fuzzy cognitive mapping exercise during this first workshop session.

Nevertheless, the participating stakeholders kindly agreed to complete the exercise within the coming days. Together with the organizing team (BOKU), they decided to continue the work with the Mental Modeler on an individual basis and to merge and discuss this work during a second workshop session on 7 June 2021.
