To ensure that even more people ride a bike, companies, associations, cities and municipalities in Austria receive free advice and financial support for the implementation of cycling projects from klimaaktiv mobil.

The action program klimaaktiv mobil cycling and mobility management started on April 12, 2021. A total of around 40 million euros in funding is available for 2021 (20 million euros for cycling & mobility management, 20 million euros for high-speed cycling connections). For the first time, measures relating to pedestrian traffic are also eligible for funding.

Do you want to improve the conditions for cycling?

The mobility management experts advise on the klimaaktiv mobil funding program and support applicants in submitting funding. The cycling projects with comprehensive measures will be supported:

• Combined footpaths and cycle paths, cycle paths, fast cycle connections
• Eligible in combination: signposting and information systems, guidance systems and road markings, permanent counting stations
• Bicycle racks, purchase of electric and transport bicycles
• Bike rental
• E-charging stations
• Information campaigns

Bicycle transport with a tailwind

The purchase of (e) transport bicycles and electric bicycles (at least 5 pieces) by companies, associations and municipalities is subsidized with a flat rate of up to EUR 1,000. The funding amounts to a maximum of 30% of the investment costs. The prerequisite here, too, is the verifiable use of electricity from renewable energy sources.

Advice and funding for comprehensive cycling projects

The klimaaktiv mobil advisory programs support applicants in the conception and submission of funding for cycling projects in "Mobility management for cycling" that go beyond flat-rate funding:

• 20% of the eligible costs
• Additional promotional bonuses of a maximum of + 10% of the eligible costs
• A maximum of 600 euros per year per ton of CO2 saved

Special conditions for bike infrastructure projects: max. 1,800 euros / year per ton of CO2 saved. + 6 euros / year per car-kilometer shifted (except for EAFRD co-financing).

New: Flat rate subsidy for retrofitting bicycle parking

Investments in the construction of covered bicycle parking facilities that are built outside of the public traffic area (street property according to the property cadastre) are funded. Parking spaces for up to 100 bicycles can be funded. Further information: Umweltfoerderung.at/fahrradparken

The subsidy amounts to 400 euros per parking space or 700 euros in connection with an e-charging point. The application can only be submitted after the project has been implemented, but no more than six months after the invoice has been submitted.

Special conditions for fast bike connections

Investments in bicycle high-speed connections are funded with up to 50% of the eligible costs. These are made up of the costs for the system as well as for planning and assembly. More information on fast bike connections: https://www.umweltfoerderung.at/betriebe/radschnellverbindungen.html
