Danube GeoTour - DANUBE GEOTOUR - ACTIVITES FOR SETTING UP IDRIJA GEOPARK VISITORS CENTRE

19-05-2017

In Idrija, our endeavours for setting up Idrija Geopark Visitor Centre as part of the Danube GeoTour Visitor Centre Network have already started.  After establishing the working group consisting of different experts, we did some brainstorming on how to present our main topics (tectonics and seismology) to our visitors by using different innovative interpretation methods.

We decided to visit some examples of good practice in Slovenia. On Tuesday, the 9th of May, we visited the Slovenian Alpine Museum in Mojstrana. The museum bears with a very interactive exhibition, it is equipped with museum exhibits, digital devices, sound effects etc. We also visited the information centre in Bled which is hosting an exhibition of the Gorenjska Region. Some good solutions on how to present a large area with rich natural and cultural heritage in a quite small space can be found there. We ended our tour in the information centre in Bohinj visiting an exhibition about Lake Bohinj. The representative of the Turizem Bohinj organisation, Klemen Langus, shared the organisation’s experience concerning the development of tourist products and the “From Bohinj” brand with us.

This was our first screening of good practice. We plan on visiting more good examples in Slovenia during the weeks to come.
