MELIA Observatory - Winter Camp 2021

School of Advanced Social studies, Faculty of Media and Faculty of Information Studies (Slovenia) organised a traditional event, Winter Camp 2021. It was held online from the 2nd to the 4th of March 2021.

In a variety of interesting topics, there were also media-related sections. The third day of the Winter camp was divided into two sessions.

The morning section entitled Populist Ideas, Messages and Actions, as part of the Erasmus + Jean Monnet Chair project - POPEDEM, inspired us with topics on academia, media, civil society and political decision-makers. The moderator of the event was the holder of the Jean Monnet Chair, prof. dr. Matevž Tomšič, and the associated discussants dr. Miro Haček (FDV), Mitja Iršič (MK), Peter Jančič (siol.net) and MEP dr. Milan Zver.

The afternoon section was moderated by the project leader Erasmus + Jean Monnet Module - Media Literacy and Active Citizenship, prof. dr. Mateja Rek. Discussions focused on the importance of media literacy for active citizenship, the dissemination of digitalisation and the effects of these processes on society and individuals, policies aimed at strengthening media literacy at national and transnational levels, and the development of tools to support media literacy skills.
