Danube Energy+ - Follow Up: STUDENT INNOVATION CHALLENGE 2021 BY WIEN ENERGIE
09-02-2021
Climate crisis, digitalisation, quality of life // Innovative ideas from young talents are needed to collectively address these issues. That’s why Wien Energie is holding its Student Innovation Challenge for the second time. Application starts on the 18th of January 2021. The deadline for applications is in the middle of February 2021.
Innovations for the future // The effectiveness of climate protection is determined in cities. Cities are responsible for three quarters of all CO2 emissions and need to improve in all areas to overcome the climate crisis.
Up to €30,000 for projects // As Austria’s largest regional energy supplier, Wien Energie is well aware of this responsibility, which is why it’s providing targeted support for young talents.
Participants in the Student Innovation Challenge will be accompanied from Day 1 and receive support to develop their ideas and concepts not only from Wien Energie experts but also from external mentors and others in the EU- wide InnoEnergy network.
The winners can expect their project to actually be implemented as part of Smart City Vienna: Wien Energie is providing budget funding up to €30,000.
Focus areas // The focus areas of the Student Innovation Challenge are diverse. One of these is the climate crisis – the most important challenge of our times: Even if Vienna can’t stop climate change alone, the city can nonetheless play an important role – with future-oriented and climate-friendly visions.
We are looking for ideas associated with Smart Energy Communities, Smart Infrastructure and Decarbonisation.
Vienna is the world’s top city when it comes to quality of life // To make sure it stays that way, we need to tackle the challenges of the future with innovative solutions. Vienna demonstrates every day that this is possible – that’s why Vienna is #1 in the Smart City Index. Wien Energie plays an important role here: The company has been expanding the use of renewable energy sources for years and promoting climate-friendly urban development. To live up to this reputation in the future is why Wien Energie launched the Student Innovation Challenge. Students from all over Europe are called upon to submit their ideas for the smart city of the future.
The smart city // The challenge is to create an intelligent, opportunity-oriented city fit for the future. This relies not only on environmental and commercial solutions – social factors also need to be taken into account.
