Entertainment & Education especially for children

“The small bay on the big river” is the name of the new educational nature trail on the Danube Island in Vienna. At seven stations around the bay and the forest by the Reichsbrücke, all kinds of interesting facts about fauna and flora on the Danube Island are conveyed in a playful way. The target group of the didactic concept are school classes with pupils aged 8 to 12 as well as families with children who are walking or cycling on the Danube Island.

Raising awareness of nature conservation in the city

When the path was opened to the public in autumn Ulli Sima, City Councilor for Environment (photo) said: “To make the diverse nature in the city tangible for children and adults, that was the aim of this educational trail. With the ecucational trail, we are now conveying a piece of 'island history' to children in the middle of nature but with a subway connection.

Interactive and playful Experiences

The nature experience path was specially developed for the needs of school classes: the presentation is interactive, playful and suitable for groups. The nature experience path was built by the City of Vienna - Vienna Waters as a part of the EU project URBforDAN. The Interreg project is co-financed by the European Union from the resources of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the European Neighborhood and Partnership Instrument (ENPI) and the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance for EU Accession Candidates (IPA).
