Within the Sava TIES project lectures on invasive alien species were held in primary schools “Filip Višnjić” in Jamena and Morović (Srijem) during February 2020. During Biology classes, students were introduced to invasive alien species and risk they present to human health, environment and economy. At the end of February lectures were preventively suspended, due to the coronavirus COVID-19 epidemic.

The Institute for Nature Conservation of Voivodina Province employees, explained the students the importance of the Sava River as the international corridor, connecting four countries. Using practical examples of invasive species found in Posavina (ragweed, tree of heaven and other), students were shown how men, unintentionally and meaning no harm, introduced these species to the environment where they have no natural enemies. Both domestic and alien species spread using the River Sava basin. It was explained how the size of the damage these species cause and the cost of eradication mostly depend on timely recognition and reporting.

Students recognised domestic and alien species from their surroundings, which play different role in nature.  At the end of lectures, promotional materials as a sign of motivation for the invasive topic, were distributed to the students.
