Sava TIES - Awareness raising events at SNR "Obedska bara"

During the April and May at SNR „Obedska bara“ within the Sava TIES project, several workshops and field visit were held for pupils and students with the main aim to raise awareness on the importance of combating and management of IAS.

Students of University of Singidumum, 40 of them in April and 80 students of Faculty of Forestry of Belgrade University in May visited Obedska bara to get familiar with main natural and ecological values of reserve and topic of management of invasive species. Students visited several locations where active measures have been implemented in last years which the main goal was removing of IAS and creating an open (water) habitat. They also visited pilot activity location (confluence of Revenica).   

In the light of celebration of Sava River Day on 1stof June and international Environment Day on 5th of June, in joint activity of Vojvodinašume, Faculty of Agriculture from University of Novi Sad and WWF, educational workshops have been organized in info centre Obedska bara for 60 pupils of primary school from Ašanja village and Sremska Mitrovica town. Pupils from 1st to 6th grade, through different creative games and practical educational tools, been introduced with different invasive species. Through games and the less theoretical approach, they have been introduced with some principles of IAS management. 

This was the chance to pay attention to the necessity for active and permanent education as well as on continual acting towards the fighting against IAS.
