04-12-2018

On December 3rd, a workshop within the project „CHESTNUT – CompreHensive Elaboration of STrategic plaNs for sustainable Urban Transport“  was held.

The aim of the workshop was to present the Transnational Strategy proposal, which will contribute to the creation of a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) at the Functional Urban Area (FUA).

The aim of the CHESTNUT project is to contribute to a better linkage and multimodality of the transport system based on the use of more sustainable means of transport such as public transport, cycling, walking, electric vehicles and the like.

Within this goal, the project will also contribute to the following goals:

  • reduction of greenhouse gas emissions,
  • improving living conditions in the areas covered by the project,
  • facilitating the transition to sustainable transport models,
  • reducing traffic jams in the areas covered by the project.

The first step towards achieving the objectives of the project was the collection of relevant data that was aggregated into the common transnational framework as the primary inputs for the development of a mobility scenario, ie a sustainable urban mobility plan. The data were collected on the basis of a professional questionnaire and in accordance with the methodology through a standardized, common framework / methodology that enabled a good comparison and benchmarking of different areas.

Based on the aforementioned scenarios and the contributions of the relevant stakeholders, a proposal for the Transnational Strategy has been developed that will contribute to the creation of the FUA (Functional Urban Areas) for the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP).

Collected data, developed scenarios of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan will enable responsible institutions to develop a more active role in promoting sustainable mobility.
