26-11-2018

Between 13th and 15th of November, project team members were present at the Regional Conference on River Restoration for Inland Fisheries in the Danube River basin and adjacent Black Sea areas, organized in Bucharest. Representatives of partners from Romania, Serbia and Hungary took part both as participants and as speakers.

Presentations and discussions at the conference focused on the role of inland fisheries for food security, livelihoods and rural rejuvenation. The first two days were reserved for experts from across Europe from representatives of government institutions in Romania and Austria to the academic and nongovernmental environment. So, there were representatives of Ministry of Waters and Forests, Romania, Research Faculty, University of South Bohemia, Czech Republic, EUROFISH, Danube Sturgeon Task Force (DSTF), Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR), Leibniz-Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries, Germany, World Fish Migration Foundation, European Commission, Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Tourism, Austria, University of Belgrade, Department of biology and inland waters protection, Serbia, Research Institute for Fisheries and Aquaculture, HAKI, Hungary, Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning, Slovenia, FAO REU and other important actors regarding the subject of the conference.

The sturgeons were the stars of the days. Most of the discussions took place around the subject of conservation and protection of sturgeons, these species so threatened at European level. That is why our colleagues who were present at the conference took the chance to convey the messages of our project, to present our ambitious goals. We were glad to be present together under the MEASURES umbrella and to make known the proposed actions for the next 3 years. Those present had the opportunity to browse the project materials, ask questions and receive the answers directly from the project's experts.

The visibility of the MEASURES project and the dissemination of relevant information within this kind of events are very important in order to share our experience and to be able to get in touch with all those involved in this common cause.
