JOINTISZA - 1st Knowledge Transfer Training Workshop, Szolnok, Hungary

05-11-2018

Five countries in the 157,000 square kilometers of Tisza river basin design new methodologies for flood and water quality planning in the JOINTISZA program launched in 2017. Planning is of the utmost importance to prevent the anticipated effects of climate change and to improve the adaptability of the countries concerned.''

The 1st Knowledge Transfer Training Workshop was held on Monday 10th September 2018 in Debrecen, Hungary in the campus of the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences and Environmental Management of the Debrecen University.

One of the focused themes of the JOINTISZA project involves the implementation of a pilot action on urban hydrology management within the Work Package 4, Activity 4.4 Pilot activity on urban hydrology management. Therefore, two training workshops were planned to be held in Period 4 of the project.

The main objectives were to present the current knowledge and collected physical data and best available technologies, systems and methodologies, policies applied in integrated urban water management and to provide spatial decision support tool for future policy development and the decision-making using state of art engineering tools (e.g. remotely sensed data, GIS) based on case studies, focusing on Debrecen.

First the two Urban Hydrology related deliverables were introduced:

  • Elaboration of a Manual for knowledge development tools and knowledge transfer in urban hydrology,
  • Elaboration of a Guideline for the assessment of the case studies results – application of process oriented spatial decision supporting tools, methods in urban hydrology for middle sized cities in CEE based on the reference sites.

Interactive decision making Group training were also held to discuss Water resources challenges in urban areas and their integrated management.

In the second session, Computer based hands on trainings were held, where Introduction of the applicable and available data bases and the demonstration of process oriented spatial decision supporting tools were presented to the stakeholders running individual example for Debrecen.
