MOVECO - International Conference on Circular Economy in Vienna

08-10-2018

On 20th of September 2018, the MOVECO partners from Europa Consortium (ECN) and the Slovenian Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning (MESP) participated on the conference „Bringing the EU action plan to life: Towards a fact-based circular economy” in Vienna (Austria).

The conference was organized by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Sustainability and Tourism, Altstoff Recycling Austria AG (ARA), and the Austrian Water and Waste Management Association (ÖWAV). The EU Circular Economy Package and its implementation are key issues during the Austrian Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2018. For this reason, the conference focused on the EU action plan for the circular economy in Europe, and more than 400 experts have discussed the future of the circular economy, its drivers and barriers, and new, sustainable strategies for current and future challenges in waste management. They addressed topics such as business supporting circularity, plastics recycling, extended producer responsibility, science and research, eco-design, sorting and processing, and secondary raw materials as well.

During the conference, the two MOVECO partners ECN and MESP also took the opportunity and had a meeting. They discussed the problem of collecting data on waste management that is one of the core issues of the transnational strategy and the cross-country road maps, two ongoing MOVECO project activities that are being led by MESP and ECN, respectively.
