NETWORLD - Church of the Holy Spirit in Javorca, near Tolmin in Slovenia, received European Heritage Label.

Memorial Church of the Holy Spirit in Javorca was built between the World War I, dedicated to all Austro-Hungarian soldiers who died on the Isonzo Front. Surrounded by mountains, only 2 km away from the front line, Javorca Church was a place where soldiers were praying together no matter their religion or origin. The Church is part of the Slovenian national heritage since 1999.In 2007 it was recognized as one of the most important historical and cultural monuments of the European heritage.

At the end of 2017, it has been selected to receive the highest recognition European Heritage Label as it symbolizes peace, solidarity, and tolerance, which are the main values of the European Union. Therefore, European Commission officially awarded monument in February 2018 and the ceremony in Tolmin was held on 11th May 2018. Slovenian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Karl Erjavec and Tolmin Mayor UrošBrežan opened cultural program highlighting the importance of collaboration and peace, which must not be taken for granted. The event continued with Petra Kovačič (first violinist of Vienna State Opera and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra) and finished with meaningful song Love performed by girls’ choir Pueri Cantores Tolmin.
