AgriGo4Cities - Involvement of residents in Urban Agriculture good practices: the case of Munich

15-12-2017

The garden is part of the neighbourhood initiative ZAK “Zusammen Aktiv in Neuperlach” Verein für Gemeinwesen und Stadtteilgestaltung e.V. The initiative was established to promote a more active involvement of residents for their residential surrounding. Its main objectives include the promotion of joint efforts among residents of different national and
ethnic background and the promotion of self-help to foster responsible and ecological lifestyles

They will have the chance to enjoy the benefits of gardening that would otherwise not be able to afford a private garden. It is a place of social interaction, not always conflict-free, but nonetheless an important social feature in the anonymous high-rise
neighbourhood. The garden is predominately perceived as leisure activity, but food production saves household budgets as well as environmental footprints of residents. While leaving cultivation methods up to the gardeners, the coordination of the garden is
promoting ecological cultivation methods and raising awareness for more environmental lifestyles.
