JOINTISZA project congratulates winners of river-themed video competition

The JOINTISZA project is pleased to share information on the outcomes of the Danube Art Master contest, organised jointly by the Global Water Partnership Central and Eastern Europe (GWP CEE) and the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR).

Each year, the international school competition invites children living in the Danube Basin to create works of art dedicated to their rivers. New for 2017 was a special category for young film-makers, who were challenged to create a one-minute video capturing their hopes and dreams for their river. National ‘Art Masters’ were selected in each country, who then passed through to the international round of the competition. 

The Danube Art Master 'Video' sub-category attracted many of the young competitors. The overall international winner of this sub-category was Denis Savchenko from Ukraine, who was also the national winner in the ‘Teenager’ category (from 11 years to 16 years old). Debus lives in Tyachiv, where the Tisza marks the border between Ukraine and Romania. Despite his limited physical capacities because of health problems, his taking part in the contest offers an inspiration to all of us about how the protection of rivers contributes to the well-being of our countries.

Also, we are happy to share information about the national Ukrainian winner in the ‘Child’ category (up to 10 years): Petro Kovach’s video also calls for action to keep the Tisza clean.

The JOINTISZA project team would like to join in congratulating the winners and to express gratitude to all who took part in the competition. We also extend congratulations to the organisers and everyone involved in making a difference by sending a clear signal about the importance of clean and healthy rivers.
