EcoInn Danube - From the frying oil, they have formed a foil which is itself decomposed

05-10-2017

At the beginning of the unique invention of the Brno chemists, frying oil was used. Scientists from the Brno University of Technology (BUT) have made plastic from them, which after some time is naturally decomposed.

The material is currently being tested for agricultural foil, which China and India are interested in. Of course, scientists are trying to get the lowest cost of production.

Ordinary garden foil used for example, for strawberries, is made of polypropylene that does not naturally decompose. After a while the material has to be thrown out.

Conventional agriculture, operates on much larger fields than gardeners, and in some countries, unfortunately, it is a common practice to plow used foils into the soil.

The decomposition time determines the thickness of the foil. After several months or years in the soil, there will be only substances that would serve as food for organisms living in the soil.
