Amazon of Europe Bike Trail - Final newsletter

22-10-2021

Dear readers, after almost 3.5 years, we are approaching the end of the Amazon of Europe Bike Trail project. During this time we had many amazing workshops, meetings but most importantly, we managed to establish a long-distance cycling route that puts focus on nature conservation.

Amazon of Europe Bike Trail follows the landscape of the world’s first UNESCO 5-country Biosphere Reserve Mura-Drava-Danube. With 1.250 km of cycling trails following both sides of the rivers in 27 stages through Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary and Slovenia, the Amazon of Europe Bike Trail is an example of a unique sustainable tourism product that boosts the local economy and invests in nature conservation. Our cycling trail is fully equipped with signposts, resting stops, and along the route, all cyclists can enjoy local cuisine at the facilities of Amazon of Europe Bike Trail partners. If cyclists need any additional assistance, our Booking Centre is one phone call away to help them.

Final conference but not a final goodbye!

The beginning of October was reserved for our final project meeting and our final conference in Moravske Toplice, Slovenia. We summarized our work, reflected on great and challenging tasks. This was the culmination of a 40-month project, which connected 15 project partners from Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and Hungary. We are so proud that our project will contribute to the development of the UNESCO 5-country Biosphere Reserve Mura-Drava-Danube and we would like to sincerely thank every person who contributed to the success of the project. Amazon of Europe Bike Trail project was truly diverse and it gathered different stakeholders, such as tourism organisations, service providers, municipalities, regions, NGO’s and protected areas, to create new opportunities for the region and local communities. Although this was the formal end of our project, our work continues! Read more about the final conference on the link and follow our new adventures on our product website.
