Welcome to the second edition of our Newsletter!

 
 

We are happy to share the results of the first 12 months of our project with you. This newsletter is an opportunity to give you an overview of the project and update you on our main achievements. We also prepared an interview with the CSSC Lab project manager Marko Čavar from REGEA.

Regional analyses completed on CSSC potential in the Danube Region

 

Thanks to the expertise provided by the project partners, regional analyses on the city storage and sector coupling (CSSC) potential of 10 countries have been completed. More specifically, the reports focus on 19 target cities in Germany, Romania, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Moldova, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Austria and Bulgaria.  These small to medium-sized cities were not only selected because of their CSSC potential but also their representative nature since it is important to draw general conclusions on the Danube region as a whole.

A new approach for municipalities towards CSSC solutions

 

One of the first deliverables to have been developed by the project is the CSSC matrix for city storage and sector coupling (CSSC) technologies. This tool makes it possible for municipalities to identify different city storage and sector coupling solutions for their given city type and to build on the experience of Danube region cities with similar characteristics. This is important because some municipalities in the Danube region are not aware of the available CSSC approaches while others are hesitant to apply such solutions because of the presumed technical complexity and financial costs.

The first demo centre has been launched

 

We are delighted to announce that the first CSSC demo centre has been launched in Bulgaria! The Bulgarian case showcases the use of solar energy and biomass for the meeting of all electricity and heating needs of an office building in Varna. At present, the building is being used by 5 employees and is also generating electricity for the charging of two e-cars.

Six CSSC model solutions propopsed for the Danube region

 

As part of its activities in the CSSC Lab project, Lake Constance Foundation has identified six CSSC technologies, which are particularly suitable for small and medium sized cities in the Danube Region. In this blog article, we will talk you through different types of CSSC technologies and the selection process of the six “model solutions”, most relevant for the Danube Region.
