Danube STREAM - FINAL EVENT in BUDAPEST, 17TH of September, 2019

On 17 September 2019, in the center of Budapest, more than 70 participants took part in the Danube STREAM Final Event to discuss the results of the project. For two and a half years, the waterway administrations of Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Romania and Bulgaria had worked in this project to improve sustainable transnational waterway management and user information.

The Danube Waterway Marking Application with information on the current marking system in Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, and Bulgaria.

The D4D portal (www.d4d-portal.info), offering Inland Electronic Navigational Charts for the Danube waterway and further European corridors.

Further selected project results presented were:

  • A joint Good Practice Manual on sustainable waterway management, a result of the close interaction with environmental stakeholders during the project;
  • A Memorandum of Understanding to continue and enhance the cooperation between the Danube waterway administrations and Danube Parks, a network of protected areas along the Danube;
  •  A GIS-based database on hydraulic waterway engineering structures;
  • The Common Danube Reports for 2016, 2017 and 2018, providing key data on navigation in the Danube corridor;
  • The Danube Glossary – explaining the key terms related to inland navigation;
  • IENC training videos for the software systems RADARpilot720° and Navigis to explain the use of Inland ECDIS viewers on board to skippers;

PANEL DISCUSSION

 
 

The event closed with a panel discussion, where Mr. Comanici Radu from Danube River Cruises, Mr. Skoff Gerhard from the Danube Tourist Commission, Mr. Stoean Antonio from TTS Group, Mr. Tibor Mátyás from DDSG Mahart and Mr. Mihailović Ljubisa from Plovput, discussed the potentials and needs of goods transport and passenger shipping on the Danube and reflected about the results of the Danube STREAM project in detail.
