The latest achievements of FORESDA project will be presented in Dubrovnik, during 4th edition of Adriatic Wood Days,(www.adriatic-wd.com), which will be organized at the beginning of December (3-4.12.2018). In addition, the participants will have the opportunity to be part of the ideation workshop. BARK SHOULD REPLACE PLASTIC AS PACKAGING MATERIAL 

The two founders of Barkinsulation produce wine and beer cooler from tree bark. The waste of the wood industry should become an important raw material. The idea is astonishingly simple: Bark protects the cambium/the wood cells from heat and frost. The bark not only isolates, but it also repels harmful environmental conditions and protects the tree from injury. Why should not this principle be used industrially? Even more, if the renewable resource is abundant? Every year, around 1.6 million cubic meters of bark is produced in Austria alone as a waste product in the wood industry. More...

BIKEY GOES DIGITAL!

As a responsible partner in the FORESDA project, BFC is working on a pilot project called Bikey. It`s a designer transformable wooden bicycle for kids. The concept of the pilot is to use re-manufacturing materials for the construction and that meets the social corporate responsibility policies about recycling, remanufacturing and reusing of materials. At the moment, the integration of smart technologies in the pilot prototype in order to increase the attractiveness of the bicycle for the kids is being implemented. More...

OSCILLATORY DRYING - A FUTURE OF DRYING?

The pilot project implemented by the Serbian partners (the University of Belgrade - Faculty of Forestry), deals with the oscillatory drying of wood. The objective is to improve the conventional drying method. Until now, more than five new oscillatory drying cycles are conducted – Most of it on beech timber 38 mm thick. Almost all oscillatory schedules gave better results in term of drying quality and/or duration as compared to the conventional drying schedule. Drying tests on oak timber 25 mm thick were started. First oscillation run was shorter for approx. 20 percent than conventional one with a very similar drying quality! 

BROCHURE ON THE ADVANTAGES OF BUILDING WITH WOOD

In order to inform the target groups (investors and architects) in Bosnia and Herzegovina about the advantages of wood construction, a brochure "Advantages of building timber" was produced as a result of research and analysis of the wood sector as well as an analysis conducted by professors from the Faculty of Forestry of the University of Belgrade (Dr. Nebojša Todorović, Dr. Zdravko Popović and Dr. Goran Milic, "Construction of Wood", Belgrade 2018) within the framework of the implementation of the FORESDA project. CASCADING CONCEPT NEEDS A DIGITAL MONITORING OF RAW MATERIAL

The series of events regarding the dissemination of the ‘Cascading concept’ in Centru Region, Romania continued with a knowledge exchange seminar organized by the PRO WOOD Cluster at Reci, on the 14th of September 2018. The core topics of the Knowledge Exchange Seminar were followings: the gained experiences about implementation of cascading concept in wood processing and the actual situation of the wood industry in Covasna County. Based on the experiences, there is a need for digital monitoring of raw material, pre-selection of wood, utilization, and re-utilization of wood by-products in the processes. More...

ONLY 2 DAYS LEFT TO REGISTER FOR THE CONFERENCE ON THE WOOD MODIFICATION!

On 12th-13th of December the final Conference of COST Action FP1407: Living with modified wood, will be organized at the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Forestry, Belgrade, Serbia. The conference topic is state-of-the-art wood modification research including treatments and products, their environmental impacts, and use. Special emphasis will be given to presentations addressing the relationship between well-being and wood modification. The conference will be organized by our FORESDA partners, the Department of Technology, Management and Design of Wood and Wood Products, University of Belgrade - Faculty of Forestry. More information, programme and registration... 

OUTDOOR WOODEN EQUIPMENT AFTER FIRST YEAR ON TESTING FIELD

The main idea of Slovenian Pilot project is to design and test innovative bio-based products and materials for outdoor use. In the frame of the project, certain innovative products were design and tested children playgrounds (climber), urban equipment (benches) and high raised beds. All products were exposed to the natural weathering in November 2017, on the test field side of Biotechnical Faculty, Department of Wood Science and Technology in Ljubljana. CONSTRUCTION WORKS ON CO-WORKING SPACE ALMOST COMPLETED

Agency PREDA from the Republic of Srpska is implementing pilot activities on the development of physical space in the form of ICT HUB designed on Co-working principle. This Co-working capacity will be the first Co-working space in the City of Prijedor region, which will connect local creative industries and individuals, primarily with forest-based industries, as well as with other traditional industries. Co-working will be supported also by the Wood and Furniture Cluster and local and regional research and education institutions, vocational centers, and schools. More...

CAPITALISATION CONTINUES: ECO-CONSTRUCTION NEEDS A CROSS-SECTORAL APPROACH

On 22nd of November, an awareness workshop of DTP DanuBioValNet project has been organized in Zagreb, in the framework of the EU Western Balkans Cluster Policy Learning and Matchmaking Event. The project was presented within the panel on “Transnational Cluster Cooperation with the Western Balkan Countries” as a good example of successful and productive transnational cooperation in terms of the (re)establishing new value chains for the bio-based products. Croatian FORESDA partners also participated and gave some active contribution, especially in terms of capitalization linked to the development of Joint Bio-Based Industry Cluster Policy Strategy. FORESDA PM IN BELGRADE: THE REGION IS NOT LAGGING BEHIND

A three-day meeting of the FORESDA consortium, which was organized at the beginning of November in Belgrade, the Serbian capital, put the accent on the innovation topics linked to SMEs. It was also an opportunity to check the first results of the pilot project* linked to the concept of oscillatory drying, the improved method of conventional timber drying, but also to visit a Belgrade Furniture Fair, which in the recent years became one of the most important furniture fairs in the Southeast European Region. THE FIRST JOINT ROMANIAN-HUNGARIAN CLUSTER CONFERENCE

The first joint Romanian-Hungarian cluster conference took place in Oradea (Romania) and Debrecen (Hungary). A three-day event (20.-22.11.2018) was a first European cluster event to be labeled under the EU “Cluster Week” initiative. It was co-organised by the Hungarian Ministry of Finance and the Romanian Cluster Association (CLUSTERO) supported by the INTERREG Europe Clusterix 2.0 Project. It gathered cluster experts and practitioners to a lively debate on relevant cluster topics such as sustainable business models, cluster support tools, the role of universities, the Y generation and the start-ups. A special focus was put on innovative SMEs with dedicated sessions and a B2B/C2C brokerage event.
