ABOUT THE LEARNING BY DOING INTERREG PROJECT
The Learning by Doing project was initiated by the Budapest Chamber of Commerce and Industry in INTERREG Danube Transnational Programme with the financial support by the European Union.
Project partners represent the whole 14 countries of the Danube Region: Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine.
The project aims to improve the capacities of all relevant VET actors through the reinforcement of regional, national and transnational partnerships in order to ease the transition towards more company and practice-oriented forms of WBL in VET in the Danube countries.
The project runs from 1 January 2017 till 30 June 2019 with total budget of 2,3 million eur.

THE PRIORITY OF THIS PERIOD
The main task for the first period of our project was to identify at the level of each partner country the most relevant Stakeholder Group, and to motivate the envisaged members to engage themselves in common work during the project implementation. Each of the 9 partner countries created their Stakeholder group, involving more than 170 members, with a balanced distribution of the relevant actors:
One of the first results of these groups is the analysis of the detected critical challenges of WBL in VET. Once country results were specified, it was possible to identify the common challenges for the transition towards more company-based WBL in VET in the Danube region, including:
- the need for a better and more structured communication cooperation among stakeholders, from both the institutions’, companies’ and schools’ side;
- the need to improve the image of VET and to increase the interest and motivation of students towards the VET pathways
- the need to ensure qualified mentors and teachers in order to better adapt the curricula to the market requirements
These conclusions serve as the basis for the content of future activities, like national capacity-building plans, bilateral staff exchanges leading to the elements of the WBL Danube Observatory.
