While there are a number of tourism strategies and programmes highlighting the need for sustainable tourism development in the Danube Region, specific strategies targeting sustainable tourism are relatively rare. The project INSiGHTS aims to change this situation by providing guidelines on regional strategy building and related transnational policy recommendations. The overall objective of the project is to foster sustainable utilisation of natural and cultural heritage of the involved areas in the Danube Region in order to preserve and upgrade the intact local resources providing an outstanding potential to make these areas attractive destinations for healthy and slow tourism, thus serve as foundation for a flourishing responsible green tourism sector.

COLLECTING GOOD PRACTICES OF SLOW, GREEN AND HEALTHY TOURISM IN THE DANUBE REGION AND BEYOND

During 2017, project partner CEEweb for Biodiversity undertook research on State-of-the-Art good practices. The purpose of the collection is to show exceptional examples of good practices in slow, green and healthy tourism that can serve as a guide for the Danube Region and beyond. Following the standards agreed by the partners, a number of practices were selected based on their potential to become an example to follow. These practices were then analysed, evaluated, and a total of 15 (5 per Thematic Pillar) outstanding examples were finally selected. The State-of-the-Art Good Practices document presents details of these 15 good practices.

BILATERAL STUDY VISIT IN THE SWABIAN DANUBE REGION

The 3rd Bilateral Study Visit of the INSiGHTS project took place on February 6-7, 2018 in the Swabian Danube Region in Germany. Regional Development Centre “Donautal-Aktiv” hosted Hungarian partners from Zala County Government. The visit contributed very positively to the work within the INSiGHTS project. Honest discussions during the workshops provided food for thoughts for the subsequent planned pilot action. The input of the mentoring partner from BOKU University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences furthered new findings and gave impulses on how to continue in an expedient way.

PARTNERS LEARNING ABOUT IT SOLUTIONS DEVELOPMENT IN TOURISM

Lenti was the location of the 3rd Multilateral Workshop and Thematic meeting of the INSiGHTS project hosted by Zala County Government on March 6-9, 2018. The focus of the visit was on the transnational learning and exchange on green, healthy tourism and IT solutions in destination management. Partners were introduced to the best practices of Zala County, starting with the narrow-gauge railway drive, bunker and tractor tours, traditional pottery workshop and Patóhill Winery Village

PROJECT PRESENTED AT TWO TOURISM CONFERENCES

The INSiGHTS project was presented at not one but two well-known tourism conferences in Europe. Both conferences – the Tourism Naturally Conference in Kaprun (Austria) and the International Conference on Tourism and Transition in Munich (Germany) – featured presentations on the role of stakeholder involvement in INSiGHTS and were well attended.
