Second Steering Committee Meeting

NETWORLD Second Steering Committee Meeting was held in Budapest, Hungary on 14th of February 2018 with the aim to review the first year project progress, the work packages’ achievements and the follow-up measures that the project partners need to undertake in the next periods. The meeting was attended by authorized representatives of partners’ organizations. Ms. Simona Ene and Mirjana Arsenić Petrović from Joint Secretariat also took part in the meeting in order to learn how the

partnership is working, how is the communication between partners, how the reporting is going on, are there any problems, etc.

After the Coordinators’ reporting on work packages’ planned and implemented activities, the Joint Secretariat general comments on the project were positive, stressing that the NETWORLD project is going on well.

An interesting and nice surprise for those participating in the meeting was the presentation of the Hungarian partners (PP6 – LABOR), which demonstrated an innovative model of “The NETWORLD Mission of Peace - Escape Game”. All participants were excited about the upgraded idea. There was a discussion to present it during the 7th Annual Danube Forum which will be held on 18th -19th October 2018 in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Interreg Volunteer Youth (IVY)

For all young Europeans there is a little known way to get work experience abroad for anything between two to six months and get paid for it as well: Interreg Volunteer Youth.

If you are a young European between 18 and 30 years old, you can become a volunteer working inside Interreg projects. The working period is two to six months max. You will get a daily allowance for every day abroad (including weekends) and maybe some extra money for travel. The amounts vary per country from 17 € to 26 € per day. Not much maybe, but often host organizations help with some extra pocket money, cheap accommodation etc. You are explicitly not supposed to do simple logistics work for the host organization but be actively involved in realizing an Interreg project and get knowledge about every aspect of such projects. At the end, you will get a certificate from the EU that you participated. Given that Interreg is one of the largest most transnational funding sources of the EU, experience in such projects is a good extra on your CV.

Getting in is very simple. Go to the site of the European Solidarity Corps, find out what it is about, and then register. Or go directly to the registration page. After you register, you get a reference number which you send to ivy@aebr.eu. Even better, find a project you are interested in under the placement offers, and mention that in your email.

The NETWORLD project partner Rozmberk Society (Nove Hrady, Czech Republic) will announce its projects there as well. The interested persons also can contact Rozmberk Society directly at dulfer@rozmberk.org.

Upcoming Networld Conference

May 3-4 2018, Nove Hrady, Czech Republic

The NETWORLD International Conference “Borders as Result of War” is hosted by the Rozmberk Society (PP2). The focus of the conference is not on the actual battles and larger politics, but on the impacts on local people and individual soldiers.

The topics are organized in two sections. The first section covers the war effects on the local people at and far away of the fronts and the logistics of transporting and feeding the armies. This includes P.O.W camps and civilian refugees far away from the fronts, restrictions on civil population, recruiting and mobilization traditions, how to feed and army during the fighting etc. The second section covers the end of the war and its aftermath. This includes new borders after armistice, declared widow or not, propaganda, declarations of new independent states, etc.

The Conference will include a visit to the nearby open air Border Museum, to the WW I exhibition in Ceske Budejovice, and to some WW I memorials in the region.

The Conference is targeted at historians, archive and museum staff, educators, universities, public authorities involved with heritage protection, and other interested people.

The venue including accommodation will be at the “New Castle” (Chateau, Academic and University Center) and in the Nove Hrady Museum venue.

Upcoming education and public events in Nove Hrady

May 4-6, 2018, Nove Hrady, Czech Republic

During the Friday, visiting school groups will get special guidance. This includes working with databases and trying to find where some of their ancestors were fighting or died. Saturday is the public day, as part of opening the tourist and commemoration season 2018.

On Saturday afternoon, a new WW I monument will be revealed. On Saturday and Sunday, there also will be guided tours along WW I monuments and a new WW I trail. Friday and Saturday, there will also be other cultural activities, including live music performances linked to the WW I period.
