RADAR Risk Assessment on Danube Area Roads

Project objectives

RADAR main objectives

RADAR (Risk Assessment on Danube Area Roads) aims to improve the road infrastructure safety in the Danube region by raising capacity and enhancing transnational cooperation for all road users, including vulnerable road users on Danube major, secondary and tertiary road networks. One of RADAR’s main tasks is to identify risk on road networks and offer plans to systematically reduce that risk by improving infrastructure and road layout.

Training courses and study visits for road safety professionals will guide project partners through the steps from analyzing safety on their road network to defining road safety solutions that are cost-effective and likely to generate the highest reduction of crashes and casualties.

Project outputs cover:

  • Road Safety Procedures Training Concept

Include training materials and tools to perform the training courses in national languages of the Danube Translational Programme cooperation territory.

  • Training Courses

5-day training courses in each country to raise capacity of main national stakeholders to identify risk on road infrastructure and implement improvements based on the best cost-benefit ration.

  • Study Visits

2-day study visits will be organized in Slovenia/Croatia, Hungary, Slovakia and UK to exchange best practice and knowledge transfer relevant to road safety improvements solution.

  • Danube Infrastructure RS Improvement Strategy

Includes a vision, objectives and goals for road safety in the region, drafted by the partners as a result of the work done within the Road Safety Expert Group (RSEG).

  • Danube Infrastructure RS Improvement Action Plan

The goals of the Danube Infrastructure RS Improvement Strategy are broken down into specific actions as part of the Danube Infrastructure RS Improvement Action Plan.

  • Action Plan Uptake National Workshops

Workshops organized by the PPs will present and discuss the Action Plans with the decision makers and other stakeholders. 

  • Pilot Actions on 4 Road Safety Thematic Areas

Pilot Actions are implemented in 8 countries (Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary, Serbia, Czech Republic, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Moldova) in order to test the best practices agreed upon beforehand.

  • Databases on Pilot Actions

Data collected along the implementation of the Pilot Action will be stored in a database with important information regarding road layout and road infrastructure. 

Project Partners and Stakeholders

The composition of the RADAR consortium provides an excellent combination of the scientific and technical approach, with experience in advocacy skills as well – all the necessary skills that will help with achieving the project objectives and goals. The project will boost knowledge, expertise and transnational cooperation, boosting institutional capacity and bringing huge benefit to the territories involved.

Strong collaboration between government and operational engineers will save lives

RADAR aims to contribute to closing the gap between policy and practice in road safety with collaboration between government and highway authorities for casualty reduction and the operational engineering activities required to deliver them. In that sense, during the RADAR’s 3-year performance, the project will address national public authority, the general public, interest groups and non-governmental organizations, international organizations, professionals and especially road safety engineers.
