The second period of the Danube Cycle Plans project was packed with news. The main event was the adoption of the Vienna Declaration which was signed on 18 May 2021. A pan-European Master Plan for Cycling Promotion which was approved by 41 out of 56 member states of UNECE, will become the guiding document for improving cycling conditions throughout Europe.

Involvement of key players is the key to the success of any strategy. The new Marketing Strategy incorporates two major outputs: Stakeholder Inspiration Scheme and the Guideline for the Identification of Danube Cycling Ambassadors.

THE FIRST EVER PAN-EUROPEAN MASTER PLAN FOR CYCLING PROMOTION ADOPTED! dcp project started with implementation

The document was created under the heading of the Pan-European Transport, Health and Environment Program (THE PEP).

Thanks to this common European strategy it will be easier for all motivated stakeholders to promote cycling in their countries considering the best available practices. Danube Cycle Plans (DCP) partners have already started to implement some of the recommendations of the master plan:

– Development of National Cycling Plans;

– Definition of a Danube Cycle Route Network, infrastructure design standards and adequate financial support;

– Increase the awareness of relevant stakeholders for the needs of cyclists and increase their capacity to promote cycling.

GUIDELINES FOR CYCLING PLANS AND INFRASTRUCTURE WERE FINISHED 

Two key supporting documents for the development of cycling transport were already developed under the Danube Cycle Plans project (DCP). Guidelines to define National Cycle Plans and Guidelines to define a National Cycle Route Network were completed in March 2021. They will be applied by project partners in nine European countries.
