Towards establishing a European Action Plan for ensuring the sustainability of research infrastructures: Call for Action Report
The European Commission has recently published the ‘Call For Action Report’, which aims to set the basis for a discussion with Member States and stakeholders on the measures to be taken at all levels in Europe to address RI sustainability in medium and long-term. This action plan will trigger and structure the debate with RI funders, users and operators, in order to arrive at a sound basis to work for a sustainable European RI and will consequently contribute to the discussions of the next framework programmes and future ESI Funds.

Call for Action Report – Developing a European 'big science market' for advanced research infrastructures and industry
The Big Science Business Forum (BSBF) 2018 has brought together 'big science' organizations such as CERN, EMBL, ESA, ESO, ESRF, ESS, European XFEL, F4E and ILL, with industrial companies for co-creating a 'big science market' worth EUR 12 billion. During the two-day forum, the big science organizations presented their offers and investment plans to potential new business partners. In the context of establishing a European Action Plan for ensuring the sustainability of research Infrastructures, participants have also been presented the key recommendations from the European Commission's recently published Call For Action Report.

European research infrastructures call for smoother interplay between funding sources
Stakeholders are urging the European Commission to improve regulations and funding mechanisms for research infrastructures. It is not enough to fund their construction, operating costs must be covered to ensure long term viability.
Research infrastructures each need coordinated funding plans in order to guarantee their long-term sustainability and enable them to deliver the expected economic impact, according to stakeholders meeting last month to assess the state of play and future prospects for 962 EU-backed projects spread across Europe.[...]
