A milestone – the Lower Mura Valley Biosphere Reserve is part of the future 5-country Biosphere Reserve Mura-Drava-Danube, which will be the first 5-country biosphere reserve recognized by UNESCO worldwide. Also, the area of Lower Mura Vally is a valuable part of the lifelineMMD project area.

This will make history! Dr Miguel Clüsener-Godt, who had travelled from Paris to Bad Radkersburg (Austria) especially for this purpose, emphasized in his speech: "Austria is not only getting a fourth biosphere reserve but is also carrying the last piece of the puzzle for the world's first one from five countries (Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary, Serbia, Austria) existing biosphere reserve in the Mura-Drava-Danube corridor".
