28-06-2019

Tuttlingen. New offers for cyclists and tourists and especially for e-bikers – that are the results of the LENA project. On Saturday, May 25, was taken stock of the project within a final press event in the Danube Park.

The most hart-bitten participants of the press event accepted unfavorable circumstances to reach the Danube Park: By bike they arrived from Leibertingen (distance 25 km) and Sigmaringen (distance 45 km) to present their cities and municipalities as part of the Landscape Park Young Danube. Even the cloudburst that came down on the last kilometers of their route didn’t stop them from arriving in an excellent mood at the kiosk “Kischte” in the Danube Park, where they could warm up again with a hot cup of coffee fortunately. Bikers were part of a rally organized to connect all the municipalities of the Landscape Park within the final event.

At the Danube Park Lord Mayor Michael Beck took stock of the project LENA as the speaker of the Landscape Park Young Danube. He stated, one day before the European elections, that in this project you could experience Europe in all its facets: International contacts and a well improved infrastructure for e-bikers on the one hand and a labour-intensive apparatus of bureaucracy on the other. Michael Beck: “Despite all, the LENA project came in the very right moment. LENA is one further step to establish the bike as an everyday mean of transport for the people. Other steps the will city of Tuttlingen realize by itself – such as new bike routes and improved bike storage systems.”

Regine Guglielmo of the planning office Planstatt Senner explained amongst others the concept of nature routes that was developed within the LENA project: These routes will bring e-bikers specifically to the elevations of the Danube valley – by doing that, they bring new perspectives for the users and also a load relief to the main route along the Danube.

Besides that, the training of Danube Guides was part of the LENA project. One of the Danube Guides is Sibylle Laufer – she explained the concept, in which a strong focus lies amongst others on cultural and socio-historical topics. “With the example of the Danube one can get to know a lot about emigration and migration.”

The “heart” of the project in the Landscape Park Young Danube, the installation of ten e-bike charging stations, explained e-manager Dieter Schaaf: Twelve stations are available in the Landscape Park between Donaueschingen and Sigmaringen right now. “This is the biggest fast charging network in the whole state of Baden-Wurttemberg.”

The presentation of the results of LENA was combined with the announcement of the participation in the “STADTRADELN” initiative (CITY CYCLING - https://www.city-cycling.org/home). The city of Tuttlingen attends in the contest from July 1 to 21.
